It’s a pleasure to connect with you again, and today, we will deliver some urgent updates. We are writing to inform you about a situation that has arisen due to the heavy rainfall experienced in Western Australia (WA) over the past month. This rainfall has significantly affected our transit lanes and, consequently, our ability to serve our network efficiently.

This has led to flooding in WA’s key transit lanes, causing delays in shipping operations. Unfortunately, the weather conditions have worsened, aggravating the situation further. To overcome these challenges to some extent, we request our agents to send all shipments destined for WA directly to the WA gateway, avoiding Sydney and Melbourne.  We advise against routing WA shipments through Sydney or Melbourne to avoid potential delays.

Also, we urge our agents to send only WA shipments to the WA gateway and refrain from sending any other shipments through these routes. The rail lines connecting WA with other regions are experiencing significant delays due to adverse weather conditions, which are adding to our challenges. 

WA Disaster Levy

Regarding the current adversity, a temporary levy of 20% ex GST will be applied to freight transiting from 25th March 2024 until the rail line is open. This levy will apply to shipments ex Sydney and ex Melbourne gateway destined for delivery in WA. 

However, it will not apply to shipments that go directly to WA for delivery within WA. Additionally, any shipments from WA to any other state will incur the levy.

We expect the railway line to reopen by next week, however we will keep you all updated on the situation.
